About me - How I came to be a wildlife photographer

My wildlife photography started by accident, literally, as I had been forced to take early retirement in 2001 due to a back injury 4 years earlier. No longer could I continue with my hobby of steam railway photography as I was virtually grounded. Following a back operation I had to build up my walking distance and it was then I noticed the wonderful wildlife all around us.

One afternoon my wife saw a different butterfly in the garden and suggested I take a photograph.

6 months later I had an exhibition of local butterfly photographs.

Living near the Rother Valley Country Park on the borders of Derbyshire and South Yorkshire, I found it the ideal place to get my exercise while taking my camera with me. As my mobility increased, my pursuit of wildlife and animal photos has taken me to places I would previously never have thought of, but wildlife is all around us and if we just took the time to look, it is all there for all of us to see. The majority of my photos are local and it just goes to show that wildlife photography does not have to be exotic to be stunning. The little chap on the homepage has a colony on the banks of the river Rother, 1 mile from my home in Killamarsh.

Now that I am becoming more mobile again I am doing more railway photographs and I keep adding to the 1,000+ wildlife images and steam railway photographs so please save this website in your favourites and come back. I hope you enjoy the beauty of nature and the splendour of steam that I have tried to capture. If you do, I would be grateful if you left a message for me in the 'Guest Book' by clicking the tab on the right.

ANY VOLUNTEERS?

Meanwhile if you see someone with a silly expression or a tern on their head,

Say "Hello"

I like a bird on my head when I go out!

  It could be me!
